The value of my old leather glove

My Dad handed down his baseball glove to me, along with some rawhide he bought in a small Amish village in Pennsylvania. It was the 60s, on a Sunday late afternoon when he stopped and knocked on the door of an Amish home, asking where he could get rawhide to fix his glove. They wouldn’t sell it to him, because it was Sunday, but insisted that he take a long lash of high quality rawhide strips, for free. So he never actually paid for it, and treasured the lessons of the Amish family he met that day. Those strips of leather ties are the strongest part of the glove to this day! 

Really though, I’m not much of a baseball player. Dad was a softball pitcher in his older years, with a great half windmill pitch—that’s what he called it because the church softball league didn’t allow fast pitching. I guess it was the days before the slow-pitch arc became a standard. Like I said, it’s not my game. But it was my Dad’s favorite sport, and now my son plays. I am still using the glove my dad left me. 

But I am NOT using the old fashioned glove conditioner he used to use. I found a faster and better way!
